AAA Carolinas: Gas Prices Increase for the First Time in a Month

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 21, 2019) –Gas Prices in the Carolinas have gone up for the first time in a month. North Carolina’s average of $2.42 up four cents on the week, while South Carolina’s $2.30 average is up six cents..

“While gas price averages are up for the first time in weeks, they’re still cheaper compared to gas prices last month and last year,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas spokesperson. “Carolinians can expect varying prices from pump to pump for the next several days due to high refinery maintenance.”

U.S. refinery utilization dropped to its lowest rate – 83% – since Sept. 2017, tightening gasoline supplies and causing nearly half of all state gas price averages to increase on the week.

Today’s national average of $2.64 is one penny more than last week, two cents more than last month and 21-cents cheaper than last year.
